Xiaomu Yuan

Pianist

Based in Berlin, pianist Xiaomu Yuan has emerged as a distinctive concert artist whose career has been shaped by a truly international journey. Her musical development spans Europe, the United States, and China, where rigorous training, formative studies, and extensive performance have forged remarkable depth and individuality. She performs in prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall in New York, Victoria Hall and Franz Liszt Hall in Geneva, the Musik-Akademie Basel, and the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste, as well as concert halls across Europe, the USA, and China. Beyond the piano, Xiaomu has cultivated organ studies and performed in church settings, further broadening her musical expression. A first-prize winner of the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition, she is recognized for her expressive nuance, poetic sensitivity, and the individuality of her artistic work.

Her European formation began in Zürich, where she studied at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste with Prof. Konstantin Scherbakov. This period marked the start of her artistic development, enriched by intensive study, frequent recitals, and participation in numerous masterclasses with internationally renowned pianists. She lived in Zürich for ten years, continuing to refine her interpretive craft and broaden her performance experience. She later completed her Soloist Diploma at the Musik-Akademie Basel under Prof. Filippo Gamba, concluding her studies with a deepened artistic identity and a mature musical voice.

At the age of fifteen, Xiaomu moved to the United States to continue her musical studies with Prof. Seymour Lipkin and Prof. Meng-Chieh Liu, refining her sound and discovering the interpretive depth that defines her artistry. She also participated in international artistic exchanges, including the 2012 Morningside Music Bridge Festival in Canada, which broadened her musical horizons.

Xiaomu’s extraordinary musical journey began in China at the age of four, when she received her first birthday gift—a piano that would ignite a lifelong passion for music. By her early teens, she had already won multiple national competitions, displaying precocious talent and artistic maturity beyond her years. In 2006, she began her professional studies at the Central Conservatory of Music, further strengthening the foundations of her musical development. At the same year, she gave her first piano recital and played Mozart concerto with orchestra, that marked the beginning of her public career. These formative experiences laid the groundwork for her life as a dedicated concert pianist, which continues to flourish on international stages.
